Goodwill Youth Mentor Program

Goodwill Industries of Southern Arizona's Youth Mentor Program is an exciting and innovative program to help youth build career plans and skills, prepare for school completion, post-secondary training and productive work by providing structured and supportive relationships with trusted adult mentors. It targets young people between the ages of 12 and 17 who are at-risk for dropping out of school, facing legal troubles, or are at risk for delinquency due to issues such as abuse, disability, drug or alcohol dependence, or gang membership. We also support the families of enrolled youth by providing community service information, classes on youth development and other support as needed.

Goodwill will recruit, train and support volunteer mentors to engage youth in promoting their career development and life skills. We take great care of our volunteers because we understand that you don’t HAVE TO do this. You are doing it from the goodness of your heart. Volunteer mentors will be great for the job.

We require the following:

  • Written application
  • Recruit from underrepresented populations, people familiar with targeted youth, knowledgeable about career exploration, and from multiple community sources
  • Personality matches between mentors and mentees are essential
  • Pass extensive background check, criminal history check and Child Protective Services Registry check for clearance to work with children. Persons with felony convictions will certainly be considered if 5 years has passed since completion of the sentence.
  • Personal interview
  • Three personal references
  • Six hours of training and orientation
  • Individual and group mentoring services to recruited youth
  • Minimum of four hours of mentoring monthly
  • One-year minimum mentoring commitment
